I think I'd like a quiverful of children, myself

Psalms 127:4-5
As arrows are in the hand of a might man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

There's an entire faction in evangelical Christianity named after those verses (Wikipedia "Quiverfull").

I don't know; you can fit a lot of arrows in a quiver. I don't really get the arrows/children parallel, either. What, you have a lot of kids so they can grow up and shoot your enemies? Or get food for you? Hmmm, maybe that's true in an agrarian society . . .

haha, octomom! jk. yeah, I don't really understand the arrows children metaphor either. Maybe like how Chinese people used to view children, protecting and helping the family get money/food. How many kids do you want?

Well, I think arrows are like children in that their path depends both on the arrow and the archer.

I think the number of kids that I want will depend on how many my hypothetical husband and I can support... but four to six sounds good.

@Acius - interesting! Not sure if I'd interpret the psalm the same way they do, though.
