Destination: Uncertain

I didn't make it into any of the graduate programs I applied to. I wasn't surprised, because they're very competitive, but all the people who were said, "you'll get in somewhere!" were like, "what!?" So I don't know what to do with my life now. I'm not sure if I even want to go to graduate school, it was just the next step in the path I was headed. It's really frustrating. I felt like this was like my destiny in life. So I'm considering reapplying, maybe not this year since not much will have changed, but maybe the year after. Maybe I could join the peace corps and my knowledge of Russian would actually come in handy. Maybe I could just work odd jobs... I don't know, learn how to tune pianos (I think instrument repair would be really fun). Or I could become a wandering street musician. Or a bum? A life of no connections is kind of appealing in a way... the Buddhist dream! Maybe I'll just keep my part-time job as long as possible, and in all my free time just read books and play video games. I could do some volunteer work to pad my Vitae for grad school... but yeah, I have no idea. It's kind of exciting! but also, really annoying. Suggestions about things I would excel at?

Tuning pianos seems kind of cool. I think my piano tuner got into it by working at a piano store, or something. Usually you learn through apprenticeship, I think. But you have to really be a perfectionist -- I definitely couldn't do it, but maybe you could.

Are you just saying you don't want to go to grad school because you didn't get in, or do you really not want to go? Because if you really want to do it, then go for it, even if it's later, or not at the school you imagined. Of course, that's not always an easy question to answer . . .

Do you like medical/dental stuff? I dunno, med school is so long and expensive, and nursing school . . . well, you really have to like taking care of people to be a good nurse. Hmmm . . . maybe you should write a book? Journalism? Or what about technical writing? You probably don't like politics . . . what about forensic psychology? Maybe that'd be depressing . . . what about working for the Forest Service or something outdoorsy?

Music therapy? They have programs at Utah State, Arizona State, etc.

There's always parapsychology . . . :-D

They have "teach English in Russia" programs that I've heard are pretty good -- I know someone who did that if you are interested in more info. Or there's something else you could do where you might use your Russian skills . . . ;-)

You could be a Netflix Operations Manager (
